Most modern cars these days are fitted with led day-time running lights as well as light sensors to switch on the headlights when the light fades. Please remember that in most cars (not Volvo's) the day-time running lights are only at the front of the car, leaving the rear unlit. Similarly, the light sensor that switches on your lights when the switch is on the auto setting, may not operate in fog or snow.
